You want me to put butter in my what?! That was my response the first time someone told me about Bullet Proof Coffee (BPC), which is a well-known Keto staple. Yes, Butter Coffee. I know, I know. It sounds absolutely ludicrous, but let me tell you, it is delicious! Back in the day in high school when I was Starbucks obsessed, I’d order a Venti Cinnamon Dolce Latte every single morning. It was my shit. Well, the way that I make my BPC tastes very much like a Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Latte, with more beneficial ingredients and waaaaay less than $5 a pop ;P. I drink this morning concoction on days when I fast breakfast and eat late lunch, so I can get my fats in, feel full until lunch, and have a ton of extra energy throughout the day. Here’s my version:
- 2 Cups Dark Coffee Blend of your choice
- 2 Tbs MCT Oil (I’ll discuss in a minute) or Coconut Oil
- 2 Tbs Unsalted Butter (I use Kerrygold)
- 2 Tbs Heavy Cream
- 2 Packets Truvia Sweetner
- 2 Dashes of Cinnamon
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
*Combine all ingredients in a bullet blender, and enjoy!
Butter in coffee sounds disgusting, but adding unsalted butter to BPC actually makes it creamier and frothier than your average cup of joe. Plus, it’s an excellent way to get your fats in for the day. As for MCT Oil, I know you’re probably thinking, what the hell is that stuff? MCT Oil (or Medium-chain Triglyceride Oil) is actually made from coconuts. MCTs are an excellent source of fatty acids, which help you feel full longer, and give you an amazing energy boost that will last all day long. While regular coconut oil have anywhere from 50% to %60% MCTs, MCT Oil has 100%. Here’s a great source for more about MCT Oil–>https://www.perfectketo.com/mct-oil/. WARNING: Although my recipe calls for 2 Tbs, those who are not used to MCT Oil should probably start with 1 Tsp to 1 Tbs until your body becomes used to this product. That is, unless you enjoy having the runs (ha). It seriously works your stomach at first.
It’s also important to note, that I only drink BPC as a meal REPLACEMENT, and not in addition to Breakfast. There is about 430 calories in this mix, plus it has a TON of fat, so I would not recommend drinking BPC and having a meal. It’s meant to be a source of energy, and to keep you full until your next meal 🙂
